Thyroid Health
and Functional Medicine
Could Your Thyroid Be Contributing To Your Symptoms?
Many people continue to experience fatigue, brain fog, weight gain, hair loss, or other symptoms despite being told their thyroid levels are “normal.”
At Wildflower Wellness Center, we take a functional medicine approach to thyroid health—looking beyond a single lab value to better understand the factors that may be influencing how you feel. Our goal is not simply to manage numbers on a lab report. Our goal is to help uncover the underlying contributors that may be impacting your overall health and wellbeing.
When Thyroid Symptoms Don’t Tell the Whole Story
Thyroid hormones influence nearly every system in the body. However, symptoms commonly attributed to the thyroid can also be affected by
- Chronic stress
- Hormonal imbalances
- Nutrient deficiencies
- Poor sleep
- Blood sugar dysregulation
- Inflammation
- Gut health concerns
When these factors are present, patients may continue to struggle even when thyroid labs appear within normal ranges.
Common Symptoms We Evaluate
- Fatigue
- Brain fog
- Difficulty concentrating
- Weight gain
- Hair loss
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Sleep disturbances
- Low energy
- Cold intolerance
- Digestive concerns
- Mood changes
“Normal and optimal are not the same. This is particularly apparent in thyroid disease.”

A Root-Cause Approach to Thyroid Health
Rather than focusing solely on symptom management, functional medicine seeks to understand why symptoms are occurring.
Comprehensive Health History
We take time to understand your full health story, including:
- Chronic stress

- Nutrient deficiencies
- Poor sleep
- Blood sugar dysregulation

Because thyroid health is connected to many other body systems, we often explore factors that may be contributing to ongoing symptoms.
Potential areas of evaluation may include:
- Stress and adrenal function
- Hormone balance
- Nutrient status
- Inflammatory markers
- Gut health
- Autoimmune considerations
- Blood sugar regulation
Personalized Recommendations
Based on your individual needs, recommendations may include:
- Nutrition support

- Stress management strategies
- Sleep optimization
- Supplement recommendations
- Additional testing when appropriate
- Coordination with existing medical care
Why Patients Choose Functional Medicine for Thyroid Concerns
Many patients come to us because:
- They still feel unwell despite treatment
- They want a deeper understanding of their symptoms
- They are looking for a more comprehensive evaluation
- They want to address lifestyle factors affecting health
- They are interested in a whole-person approach to wellness

Frequently Asked Questions
- Can functional medicine replace my thyroid medication?
- It depends on what the underlying cause for your thyroid disease is.
- What if my thyroid labs are normal but I still have symptoms?
- We need to look at where you fall in the optimal range. If you are in the optimal range and still having symptoms we start looking at other factors that may be causing your symptoms.
- Do you work alongside my primary care provider or endocrinologist?
- Yes. Functional medicine can complement traditional medical care and is often used alongside ongoing thyroid treatment.
- Do you accept insurance?
- We do not bill insurance. We provide all of our patients with a super bill they can submit to their insurance companies. We do not guarantee if insurance will pay. We accept HSA and FSA payments though. This allows us to operate without the restrictions imposed by commercial insurance.
